Which phones are compatible with Japan Wireless eSIMs?

The eSIM technology is relatively new. Please check with your operator if there are any restrictions with your phone. If you have a carrier locked phone, you won't be able to use our eSIMs. Check our compatibility page for a full comprehensive list of all compatible phones & devices. What is the time frame for activating my eSIM?

Accepted Answer

Your Japan Wireless eSIM must be activated within 30 days from the purchase date; otherwise, it will expire and become unusable.

Can I use hotspot to share data with other devices?

Accepted Answer

If your device is equipped with this functionality, you can certainly share your data with other devices. E.G. If you activate your eSIM on your Iphone 14 pro max, you can utilize your hotspot to share data to your Samsung Galaxy A14. For IOS devices: Go to [Settings] > [Cellular] > [Personal Hotspot or Settings] > [Personal Hotspot] and make sure it’s turned on. Then verify the WiFi name & password. Make sure to stay on this screen so that you can share your eSIM data WiFi to other devices. For Android Devices: Go to [Settings] > [Network & Internet] > [Hotspot & Tethering] > Toggle on [WiFi Hotspot]. Once turned on you should be able to share your Japan Wireless eSIM data with other devices!

When do you reset my data plan?

5G Unlimited (KDDI): No daily data reset — effectively unlimited for normal-to-heavy travel under Fair Usage Policy. 4G Unlimited (NTT DOCOMO): Up to 3GB/day at high speed; after 3GB, speed drops to 256 kbps until your allowance refreshes at midnight Japan time (00:00 JST). Fixed Data plans: No daily reset — fixed total data for the plan period.

Can I use my eSIM outside of Japan?

Accepted Answer

No. Your eSIM can still be activated outside of Japan but it will only be able to access the internet in Japan. Therefore it is recommended to download the eSIM by utilizing the free internet service in airports such as Haneda, Narita, Kansai International or Itami if visiting Tokyo or Osaka. All major airports in Japan provide free internet.
