Used in Tokyo and Osaka. Had service about 90% of the time. Only time it was slow or lacking was at the theme parks (Disney/universal) but I figured it was due to the sheer volume of people there.
Will be getting it again on my next trip to Japan. Took me a while
To find the kiosk place in Haneda as the map wasn’t very descriptive but everyone I asked for directions was very helpful.

I used this as my family's primary internet access while in Japan after a friend recommended it from her trip in 2018. It was super simple to set up and got us around the Kansai region reliably - even on top of Fushimi Inari and deep inside large buildings I still had fast service so I could use my navigation and translation apps. Battery lasted long and rarely used the provided backup battery, but it was nice to have just in case. It's so small I often put it in my back pocket if I didn't feel like carrying any purse or backpack. Overheating was not an issue except for one time when 6+ people were using it.
Be aware that it will read an error message that has a code you'll have to look up online the rare times you go out of range (very remote mountain areas, subways, etc.) which is alarming when you can't look the code up due to no WiFi. Just wait until you go back in range, reset, and you'll be good.
Overall: powerful little WiFi that I recommend to anyone, especially those traveling in small groups.

Wireless worked perfect during my trip to Tokyo. Easy to use and pickup at hotel and return to post office box right in front of my hotel. Would definitely rent from Japan Wireless in the future.

I highly recommend this for your internet needs when traveling to Japan. It is very convenient. I had it delivered to our hotel and dropped it off the the airport mailbox. The battery charge lasted the whole day. My usage was mostly messaging my companions, posting photos in social media, and uploading the photos of the day to cloud storage. I never had problems with connections and speed

It was very easy to rent the device, and pick up at the airport. As advertised. They provide an envelope to mail the Wifi device back. There are Japan post office boxes at the airports before security. We always had internet connection while using the device and didn't have to access our wireless carriers daily rates for 4 phones since we had the Japan wireless device. It saved us $250 for 4 phones over 10 days. I would highly recommend it vs. paying International rates for Verizon's slower service.

Picking up and dropping off of our portable wifi was seamless. Connectivity and coverage was good.

The process was very user friendly. I booked online, picked up at the airport. The instructions on use and return were easy to follow and I returned at the mailbox in the airport. Charge held for most of the day, I rarely needed to use the charger but appreciated having it just in case. Will use again in the future.
