Had wifi right from the time we pick up the unit outside customs till we dropped it off before going back through security on our flight home. Regular phone service for texting and internet was good enough to get us through customs. Was worried about having no internet as soon as we arrived and in reality that was not even an issue. With a group of people this is definitely the way to go instead of individual sim cards.
