We visited Japan in April 2024 and used a Japan Wireless Pocket WiFi for 16 days. My destination was Hiroshima via Haneda. Originally, I was going to land at Haneda and have enough time to pick up the pocket WiFi / hotspot at the Japan Wireless desk during the layover. However, the airline changed my flight to be an hour earlier - so I'd miss the business hours of the Japan Wireless pick-up desk. I emailed Japan Wireless, and they said they could ship the hotspot to my hotel - no extra fees, no worries. I was a little dubious but when I got to the hotel in Hiroshima, the hotspot was waiting for me at the front desk. So smooth!
The pocket WiFi worked great at all locations (mostly major cities with one small town in Gifu), lasting all day with 2 users on cell phones a lot of the time. Stayed connected with reliable and snappy data.
Pro-tip: If you're renting a Pocket WiFi, rent it for an extra day, so you don't have to think about what time to get it into the mailbox. I didn't realize I was going to be in Japan during Golden Week, so I had to take into account the reduced collection times. Had I known, I would have just rented the hotspot for another day, and then had more flexibility on when the return envelope could have been dropped into the mailbox.
The wifi connection is stable and easy to receive and return the wifi pocket.
Whole process was smooth and simple.
From ordering to pickup and returning all steps were easy and smooth.
The wireless/wifi connections were good in Tokyo and vicinity.
