Japan Wireless eSim service is a reasonably priced solution to roaming in Japan. Their easy sign up was fast and near instantaneous to implement. Once you arrive in Japan, just scan the supplied QR code at home (print it prior to arriving) and boom! You are in the network. I didn't have to think about it again during our trip. Our iPhones worked normally. One thing to improve--we could only use the one cellular network at a time. Not both. My previous experience with a physical and eSim allowed me to use both my home country and JP networks at the same time. Now with two eSims installed, I was only allowed to use on network at a time.

Downloading the e sim on your phone instead of getting a pocket wifi. Makes travelling much bette.

The E Sim was great - relatively easy to install on my phone.

we already rented a wifi box but needed a back up just in case we get separated while walking around and the esim made it easy to have connectivity all the time.

Easy to use, no worries about carrying around extra weight in addition to back up battery. Will use this again!!

Best value if you have an unlocked phone w/eSim compatibility ... make sure to activate after you arrive Japan ... I didn't, but Customer Service was Excellent to quickly resolve ...highly recommend this solution before you travel, but there are several other options at the airport for 3x cost.
