We rented pocket wifi during our trip to Japan and Thailand.
For similar cost, the device with Japan Wireless is much much better. Even though it comes with a power bank, we never needed to use it as the device built in battery is large enough to last all day. Complete online payment and return by using enclosed envelope is much more convenient than the one in Thailand which required a cash deposit and return to the originating airport kiosh
