Being connected was one of my priorities as I was planning my trip to Japan. Knowing that Phone calls and data roaming were going to be rather expensive I followed the advice from other travellers of looking into a portable wifi. I came across Japan Wireless, their prices and data package were very comparable to other providers but reading about the signal reliability across the country and their transparent explanation of the data allowance made gave me the confidence to go for it. the online booking process was simple and also was the pickup from the post office at Narita airport, despite not speaking japanese. I was provided with a self addressed and prepaid return envelope for all the equipment to be dropped at the end of the rental period at any post office or post box (I used the same post office as I knew where it was). The data package was sufficient for what I needed to do, I did not use it for extensive video watching as free wifi is widely available in hotels and most business establishment, so I cannot comment on it. I am overall really pleased with the service and happy to recommend Japan Wireless to those wishing to explore Japan.

Easy to order and to pickup when you land at Narita Airport (post office on 2nd floor of Terminal 2). Saved me during my entire trip at Tokyo. Totally worth it and will do it again!

If you will be in Japan, definitely consider renting this for your trip. It comes with everything you need(Pocketwifi, micro usb cable to charge, USB adapter and portable charger). Our flight arrived late in the evening, so we weren’t able to pick it up in the Kansai Airport. Japan-Wireless had an option to have it shipped to our hotel. It worked out great, because when we arrived at our Hotel, the front desk had it ready for us. Device was fully charged and ready to use.

Before purchasing, I did my research and came across this company as one of the best for Fastest Data Speeds and Best Reception. I placed a order 2 weeks before the trip. You could go as late as 3-4 days before your trip. But I recommend doing it early just in case you run into issues.

At the time I currently had a cell phone plan with AT&T in USA. It would be $10/ day for me to use my cell phone as a source for cellphone service. But I also had my wife with me and it would be double the bill. In Japan, we didn’t do much calling. It was more of data usage. The data plan we opted for was unlimited. So it was worry free and we could connect multiple devices to the PocketWifi. If we needed to make a call to home in Hawaii, we just used FaceTime on our iPhone or used iMessage to text home.

In Japan, the best means of transportation is the rail or train system. Coming from a state that doesn’t use rail or train was definitely a great experience. Having the PocketWifi came in handy with navigating where we needed to go. Google maps is your friend. It’s extremely accurate too. The price and routes are listed when searching.

Don’t forget to charge your devices before you leave the Hotel. Using WiFi on the go like we did, drains your cell phone battery more than cellular connectivity. Also make sure you have a portable charger for your phone.

Upon leaving Japan to head back to Honolulu, all we needed to do is drop the PocketWifi in one of the Red Postal boxes at the Airport. The kit comes with a pouch and a checklist to ensure you got everything.

We never had a issue with the PocketWifi. We will definitely be renting with Japan-Wireless on our next trip to Japan.

If it wasn’t for the pocket WiFi we got from Japan wireless, our trip wouldn’t have been as enjoyable. Definitely renting it again when we go back to Japan this year.
