Rent the premium MiFi: you will NOT regret it! Couldn’t have been more useful to have. Used all over Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, in restaurants (when my 7 yo could not go without his iPad), waiting in long lines for popular ramen restaurants, uploading pics on the go, and even on the bullet trains. We were constantly connected to be able to share photos and FaceTime family in real time. Best of all, we never got lost!! We had GPS and used Google Maps and various train/subway station finders throughout our 8 days in Japan. If we hadn’t gotten the MiFi, we would have gotten unimaginably lost, no doubt!
The company was super easy to deal with- 100% reliable, our package arrived and was waiting for us at hotel, and they made it so easy to repack and mail in the little envelope upon return at the airport. Connectivity speed was excellent (on multiple devices) and we never had a glitch in service whatsoever.
We will DEFINITELY rent from Japan Wireless again next trip! Best call ever. So happy we got this.

My pocket wifi was waiting for me at my hotel when I arrived in Tokyo. The connection instructions were easy to follow. I had it for 3 weeks all around Japan, and never had any connectivity issues. It came with a spare battery, I guess to recharge through the day, but I never needed it. Popped it in the prepaid satchel (supplied) and posted it in Haneda Airport as we left.

Very easy to pick up from the airport. Mobile wifi had excellent coverage even in underground rail areas. Went from Tokyo to Kyoto with no drops in coverage. Return was simple as well.

It was so fantastic having internet everywhere I went and I was able to use the charger pack for both the wireless internet and my phone.

Awesome service, if you are in need of reliable service I highly recommend them; the only gripe I have is that they don't have a kiosk in side the airport after customs. REMEMBER TO RETURN YOUR WIFI AT THE AIRPORT POST OFFICE BEFORE YOU GO THROUGH SECURITY.or pay for the shipping fee to send it back .....
