I have been renting a wifi device from Japan Wireless for my trips to Japan for the past five years, and have never been disappointed. This particular one is fast, the battery lasts at least all day, and is portable and light. It has worked perfectly in every city I've visited, including up in Hokkaido. Returning it is simple, as they provide a self-addressed envelope which you just drop into a mailbox (before security) at the airport. I highly recommend renting from Japan Wireless.
