I rented 3 x pocket WiFi for separate visits to Japan. I had the items delivered successfully to hotels, and I picked up at Haneda on one occasion, which was a smooth and efficient process.

The WiFi was very reliable, which I used when travelling around Japan, predominantly for internet calls and online meetings. Returning the equipment was easy, using a pre-paid envelope and dropping into any postbox.

I wouldn't hesitate to use again on any future trips to Japan.

I used this wifi hotspot as my primary internet access for an 11 day trip to Japan. I found it more convenient to have pocket wifi than to try and figure out how to access many of the free wifi services that were available.

It worked everywhere I went - in Tokyo, in and around Kyoto, on the shinkansen, on the subway, in the malls, on the street, deep in mountain shrines, etc.

And the speeds were very good. In the United States, I generally expect 4G LTE to be fairly slow, rarely over 5 Mb/s. However, the service from my pocket wifi was never lower than 20 Mb/s, and always fast enough to do whatever I needed.

The battery lasted for hours. I only ran out once, but fortunately I remembered to bring the extra battery with me.

Pick up at the airport was very convenient, and the prepaid envelope for drop off was equally convenient.

I got so used to having it in by bag that after I dropped it off in the airport, I missed it immediately.

And, the price was right. I am planning another trip to Japan on the next year or so (if finances permit), and I'll definitely be getting another pocket wifi for my trip.
