All went well. The pocket wifi was at my hotel when I arrived. I took the powerbank for security but didn't use it much. The connection was constantly perfect, whether in Osaka, Kyoto or Tokyo, and even on the Shinkansen.

Worked great for our trip. Had two phones connected the whole trip with no issue. Fast internet speeds. Easy pick up/drop off. Compact and easily fit in my bag. Cheaper than international phone plan (and I have a locked phone, so can't use esim). Charge lasted usually a whole day depending on how late we were out. But it came with its own portable charger, which was convenient when needed. Only downside was that the range wasn't very wide, but it was just my husband and I. We didn't venture out separately from each other, so it wasn't much of an issue for us.

I need and use Wi-Fi even when walking between locations. This allows me to use Apple or Google Maps, and it helps me keep up with email and other communications. For me, Wi-Fi is necessary when traveling.
