I ordered a mobile wifi from Japan Wireless for our 3 week journey through Japan. It is super convenient. Pick it up at the airport, and off you go! Unlimited internet during your stay, which we felt was a bonus. It helps if you have access to Google translate or maps. Even a powerbank was included to stretch the internet use till very latz at night if necessary. No doubts and absolutely recommended.

We used this for our 2 week trip around Japan from Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagano, Nara, Yamanouchi, Yudanaka through to Osaka with absolutely no problems whatsoever with signal. Worked pretty much 99% of the time on the metro which was surprising. Battery lasts for about 8hours and they supply you with a free power bank which is perfect if you've been out all day and need that last bit of power to get you back to your destination. Takes a few hours to charge as does the power bank, so plan to charge both up the night before you head out. It does get quite hot when left on, which obviously would drain the battery. So, if you know you're not going to use it for a few hours, switch it off to conserve power. Overall we were really happy with it as it helped us get around. It worked perfectly with Google, Maps and Google Trips combined. We tried a few official Japan travel apps but the former proved far more accurate and reliable. A little more expensive than the sim only for a single person, so if you're travelling with a group I'd highly recommend this. Plus, the signal may be better as it as an extendable antenna. Order it before you fly to Japan, and if you do your research you can save money off with monthly offers. Once you're done with it, when you get to the airport before you go through security, pop it in the prepaid envelope it came with in the airport post box (they even provide you with infographics to show you where to pick up and drop off at selected airports). Also, you don't have to drop it back in to the original airport, hence the post. Super easy, very reliable, comes with own small case so you can pop your itenerary in there too. We can't recommend this enough!

Order, pick up from the airport, press ‘on’, login with credentials and you are online for the rest of your journey! Good battery and perfect connection :)

Excellent product. Fast speeds and reliable. Only issue was I couldn't figure out how to change language to English, we were able to easily get it working with the included instructions though

small, can get a little hot, overall works fine. battery life was good. they give you a battery pack in case you need it. but we only needed extra battery pack twice.
