I was very satisfied with having reliable internet in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto! I will say it’s on the pricier side compared to other sites that claimed to have unlimited internet. As a first timer in Japan I wanted to be sure I had reliable internet at all times to utilize Google Maps ,social media and messaging apps and it worked flawlessly! I don’t mind paying a premium to be guaranteed internet’ at all times. Even when I stayed at hotel’s some of the WiFi was very choppy and I would have to go back to using my internet which would upload so much faster! Overall I would highly recommend using Japan wireless for your trip, if you’re prioritizing reliability. If you’re on a budget maybe look elsewhere? But personally now that I have used them, I will always use Japan wireless for connectivity. This is also based on using it on an iPhone 17 pro max.
I went with a 4G lite sim, 30GB for 30 days. I found it easy to buy online from home, and it worked really well. However because all of my accommodation had wifi, I would go with a lower amount of GB in the future. Mine was a data only sim, and so I couldn't make calls or text, but just used a wifi app, so all worked well. My husband got a Japanese sim, with a number, which was useful in a couple of places when they needed a phone number. We travelled quite widely, Tokyo and headed south, and had no problems. One thing I missed was the ability to see how much data I had left, but once I enabled my phone to keep track (in my settings) that worked well.
We thoroughly enjoyed our ride & the Wifi connection board shinkansen. It was smooth & effortless.
Nothing special to report other than this service provided the 5g service I needed almost everywhere I went in Japan. In the areas where the service was a little slower it still worked better than the free service my home provider gives with my normal plan. I’ll use it again when I visit in the future.
